Delhi - Almora - Binsar valley - Corbett - Fort Unchagaon - Agra - Delhi.
A fabulously rewarding luxury walking holiday, in the shadow of the great Himalayan ranges, makes this one of the most invigorating and appealing Himalayan walks in India. The trek, besides providing vistas to dazzle the eyes also provides an insight into the resident Kumaoni village life, as we circumambulate terraced fields and hamlets; hop and skip across gurgling brooks; cool off under sizzling waterfalls; tiptoe through thick forests of Deodar (cedar); stop and listen to multi-hued birds; calling melodiously from within the dense vegetation around and breathe in sparkling mountain air, clear as champagne fresh from a vineyard; all this makes for an experience to be cherished forever.
“Walking in Style” A tailor-made itinerary to make you immerse in the sparkling culture and heritage of Kumaon region for a lifetime experience.
This Himalayan Odyssey is set against the backdrop of the second highest peak in India, Nanda Devi (7816m). The bird life on the trek is simply amazing. The accommodation on the trail is rustic but clean and offers all the basic amenities. The village houses, to be used for night sojourns, have been comfortably renovated, and have toilets and bathrooms added, without spoiling the traditional ambience.

Day 4, 5, 6: Village walks with overnight stays
The mountain perambulations lead you through picturesque hill villages; terraced fields; sparkling waterfalls, seasonal streams and deep forests of rhododendron, oak, pine, and cedar. Rhododendron flowers are in bloom from mid-February to April. The day’s hikes vary from moderate ascents to moderate-strenuous taking us to altitudes ranging between 1450m and 2250m. Walking on beaten trails, we pass through several villages, where wonderfully carved doors and windows adorn quaint little houses. This itinerary provides us with a glimpse into the traditional way of life of the Kumaoni folk, still practicing their age-old rituals with great reverence. As we walk through terraced fields, we will be able to see their traditional channel irrigation systems, still in use. Kumaoni folk are a friendly lot, ever smiling and extremely polite to visitors; through villages retain their old native charm; British influence is clearly visible in the larger towns and cantonment areas. On the walks, we shall visit some of the local ancient temples dedicated to Goddess Kali, Lord Vishnu and Shakti (many forms of Goddess Durga), some dating back to almost a 100 years. Another interesting highlight is the ancient flour mills used valleys give us company providing scintillating views, making us forget our fatigue in spite of walking for nearly 5 hours at a stretch. We will stay overnight in charming village houses, which have only 2 rooms and one western-style bathroom. The rooms have been restored and have comfortable beds and clean linen. On the conclusion of a day’s hike when we reach our destination, we can freshen up and unwind. While traditional Kumaoni food is prepared for us, we can stretch our laboured limbs and enjoy a welcome drink relaxing outside the huts of hiss fields to fetch fresh vegetables for the evening meal. It would perhaps be polite to offer a helping hand. If too tired to do so, swap stories with the locals and listen to their local tales (no doubt heavily embellished at most time). On the penultimate evening, after dinner, traditional Kumaoni folk dances and music are organized around the bonfire. The music and the lilting Kumaoni folk songs and the light-footed languorous dancing under the stars is a mesmerizing experience. What a charming conclusion to our hike in the Himalayas!
