Route : Delhi - Leh - Bakula Bao - Paldar Sumdo - Tibb - Neyrak – Lingshet do - PadumLingshet do - Neyrak - Tibb - Paldar Sumdo - Bakula Bao - Leh - Delhi
Incredible! Once in a lifetime experience! Walk in sub – zero temperature on the frozen Zanskar River, gushing downhill in the highlands of Ladakh also known as Little Tibet! This ancient route has been used for centuries as a trace link by Zanskaris (inhabitants of Zanskar). On your journey, you will have the opportunity to stay with local Zanskaris and visit some of the ancient monasteries behind ice walls, wedged between the mighty Karakoram and the Great Himalayan range. The Ladakh region varies between 2743 m to 7672 m (9,000 ft to 25,170 ft) above sea level. Starting in the town of Leh (3505 m / 11,500 ft), this journey includes many fascinating excursions to nearby gompas (monasteries), villages and surrounding hamlets and you may also get to witness a sacred festival.
Zanskar valley lies to the southwest of Leh in the trans-Himalayan Zanskar range, within the great Himalayan system; it is the most isolated of the trans-Himalayan valleys. It has an area of about 5000 sq. km and an elevation of 4010 m (13,154 ft). The area remains inaccessible for nearly seven months of the year when all passes close. In winter, when the river freezes on its surface, Zanskaris walk along it to reach the Indus River in Nimoo (‘chilling village”), on a trek known as the Chadar or Frozen Blanket. The regions geographical isolation has resulted in the preservation of its Buddhist heritage and identity. There are also some remote caves believed to have been used by the successive Buddhist saints to sustain mediation in pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment.
Highlights :
• Trekking up the frozen Zanskar River
• Winter life in the trans-Himalayan
• Ancient culture
• Monks & monasteries
• Jaw-dropping spectacular scenery
