GUWAHATI

Call it Gateway of North India or Light of the East or City of Temples, the largest metropolis of Assam state, Guwahati is a port city located on the bank of River Brahmaputra while escorted by Shillong Plateau from the other side. A combination of two Assamese words Guwa (Areca nut) and Haat (market), the city was early named Pragjyotishpura. One of the fastest-growing cities in the region, Guwahati is an entry gate to many tourism activities. An education hub in the region, Guwahati is home to some of the finest academic institutions where students from all over the country come to study. The older part of the city flourishing by the riverside is more a local charm with buildings of British Raj, palm trees standing by the ponds, and temples.

Guwahati Kamakhya Temple

KAZIRANGA

An undisturbed natural habitat, Kaziranga National Park is home to one of the most vulnerable species, the one-horned rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhinoceros which accounts for almost two-thirds of the world's total population of rhinos. Along with this rhino live several other mammals. The national park beats in the heart of the state Assam, sandwiched by Golaghat and Nagaon districts in the floodplains of Brahmaputra Valley. Ornamented around 430 km square of green terrain, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site considering its significant contribution to the ecosystem providing natural shelter to a wide species of flora and fauna.

One-Horned Rhino

MAJULI ISLAND

Honored as the world’s biggest river island; Majuli Island is a place away from the chaos of human inhibition, immersed in the nectar of tranquility. Majuli Island

DIBRUGARH

This bustling town is located on the shore of Brahmaputra River. The largest city of Assam, this city is a major industrial city of North-East India. Dibrugarh got its name from ‘Dibrumukha’ word which is the name of Dibru River where the word ‘mukh’ means mouth. The city has experienced a growth in leisure and business tourism due to its nature and culture which can be perfect for unwinding and recreational activities. The city is also referred to as ‘Tea City of India’. Along with Tinsukia and Sibsagar, Dibrugarh accounts for more than 50% of India’s tea crop. The city is divided into two different parts by Buridihing which is a tributary river of Brahmaputra.
